Review: Tara Craig exposes raw beauty on self-titled album

Tara Craig moves like a phantom. Her voice charges through the spiraling smoke of existence. Her penmanship is equally as affecting. Just listen to her self-titled sophomore album. Stacked with intricacies, the nine-song project crawls under your skin in its excavation of self. While she boldly pushes experimental boundaries, her lyrics remain raw – as though these confessions and self-extracted lullabies are life and death entries of her human story. Craig keeps the album themes close to the vest, allowing the listener to parse their own meanings and intentions. As if words etched in marble, Tara Craig arrives as a necessary salve to today’s troubling times and a remarkable step forward in indie/folk music.

Album Review by Lefuturewave

When it comes to making music, many artists try to simply make their sound a little better, but Tara Craig takes a different approach. She truly sits down and contemplates how to make significant leaps forward. On her self-titled album, she depicts this mindset.

Indie Boulevard: What Makes Tara Craig’s New Album So Personal and Unbound by Trends

When an artist chooses a self-titled name for an album, it’s always a subtle hint that we’re dealing with something rather personal, perhaps even an autobiography. With her first eponymous album, Tara Craig steps into the spotlight, revealing herself to the listener with almost painful honesty. Tara Craig left me speechless.

New music alert: Taylor Swift’s Anti-Hero cover by Goodbye, Beautiful and Tara Craig

It takes a special request by some pretty special people to get me to dare attempt a Taylor Swift cover. My niece Eleanor and her dad Marco of Goodbye, Beautiful happen to be such people.

Goodbye, Beautiful writes and records a song for his kids every year for their birthdays. This year he wanted to do something extra special by  releasing a version of Anti-Hero along with this year's original birthday track.

When he asked me to sing on this track I admit was super intimidated but I had lot of fun and feel happy with out it turned out. Hope you like it too!

Thanks Goodbye, Beautiful for asking me to sing on this. Looking forward to what we put out next!

My new album is out!

This has been such a long, beautiful and grueling project I often wondered if this day would ever come. This is, by far, my most personal release to date so it just made sense for it to be self-titled. I feel immensely proud of this collection of songs, my heartstrings tightly woven into each track.

I wrote/co-wrote, produced, engineered and mixed every song on the album and played each instrument you’ll hear with the exception of drums.

This album is meant to be a journey.  It is a lush, moody and intimate musical landscape and I am so excited for you to explore it.

Questions We're Afraid To Ask Ep 27 - Creator Conversations w/ Tara Craig

I had a great conversation with Bill and Dan on “Questions We’re Afraid to Ask”.  Our conversation centers around my experience producing and engineering my latest album.

Unprecedented

Wow, what a week it has been.

My plan was to send an update tonight announcing my single release later this week. I'm still going to do that but first...

I've heard the word unprecedented an unprecedented amount of times and things are changing fast. It can be difficult to find the balance between overreaction and irresponsible denial. What we do know is that we must do what we can do protect the vulnerable.  The next weeks and months will be hard for everyone.

Remember you are not alone. We are all in this together. I'm posting a link to an instagram video of mine. I was reminded of these words earlier today and feel like I'm not the only one who needs to hear them. Please take a minute to listen and let the words touch your heart.

Oh yeah and my new single will be out on Friday.  Stay tuned!

Be kind to yourself and everyone else and remember we were made for love!

New Album Update

I am pleased to announce that recording of my new album is well underway.  This is my third album but the first I’ve produced, engineered and mixed all on my own.

At times I find myself overwhelmed by the sheer reality of the task and wonder, do I really have what it takes to pull this off? But there are also moments when I know for certain I’m creating something special. Moments when I am struck by how true these songs feel. Moments when I realize how rare and powerful it is for a musician, especially a female musician, to have full creative control in this way.  I’m leaning into these moments.

I can’t wait to share these songs with you.
